Rescued A Bird

04/28/2015

As I was walking to my car at the parking lot, a bird caught my eyes. At first I was just ignoring and started walking slowly near him but then I have noticed that he was not moving. Out of curiosity, I wanted to grab him and move him aside but it appears that he was incapable of flying. I felt really horrified by the fact that he can't fly and he was sitting in a dangerous location where many cars were passing by. He could easily be unnoticed and get run over.
By now you can guess what was going on in my mind which is rescuing him and set him free in the wilderness. You are correct about the first fact but in my mind I didn't think of letting him go just yet and thought of keeping him instead. So I grabbed him gently off the parking lot, sat him in the front seat of my car then drove off to Petsmart to get some food and bird cage for him so he can survive the night.
Once I enter the Petsmart, right away an elderly lady yelled out that they don't deal with wild birds thinking I came here to drop him off to them. The funny thing is that I completely ignored what she said and asked her "Where can I find a bird cage?" There were couple of customers gave me an stink eye along with the Petsmart lady while I passed them without even making an eye contact. They must have thought I am some sort of crazy lady who was torturing the wild bird and forcefully keeping him to me as a pet. Anyway, once the lady pointed out the aisle number 9, I grabbed a bird cage from the shelf and went to check it out in the line. I asked her if she knows what kind of food he eats but seems like she was not willing to help me in anyway because her first thought was this bird needs to be in the wild, not with me. So she was telling me this cage is too small for the bird and suggest me to buy a bigger bird and it is a wild bird which shouldn't be kept inside. Finally I had to explain the whole situation of this bird to the lady as she seems overly concerned about it.
I am glad I shared with her because she gave me a phone number of the wild life rescuer people to call and gave me a free box with wholes from the back so I didn't need to buy a cage for the night. I call the wild life rescuer people but they were not picking up then I left them voice message.
After I came home, my husband asked me why I was so late from work today. I explained to him and he was very helpful as well. He was jokingly telling me that we should keep him as a pet (we are recently talking about getting a cat as my anniversary gift). We gave him water, bananas, and rice to eat but he did not even touch.
A day later, my husband called another shelter and they told us that we have to drop him off to their location. Then around 8pm last night (04/28/2015) we drove all the way to Fairfax from Woodbridge to drop him off to the shelter which took us an hour to reached there. We had to signs some papers and gave the bird to one of the nurse.
All in all, it was an amazing experience I have encountered with my husband and I am glad we rescued him. He finally found a place where he can be treated and survive. I also came to realize my husband is a big hearted man and I am more in love with him everyday. Hope you all enjoyed this little journey we had yesterday. Thanks for reading!
